What is the SIELE exam?

The SIELE (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española) is an official exam to certify your Spanish level. It was created by the Instituto Cervantes, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the University of Salamanca, and the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Is the exam in-person or virtual?

How is the exam scored?

The exam gives you a score from 0 to 1000 on a scale that corresponds to the A1 to C1 levels of the CEFR. You get your official certificate within a maximum of three weeks, and you don't have to wait months for your results.

What are the SIELE exam modalities?

The exam offers two main modalities so you can choose the one that best fits your goal:

SIELE Global: This is the complete exam that evaluates all four skills: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Written Expression and Interaction, and Spoken Expression and Interaction. If you need a comprehensive certification of your level, this is the right option.
SIELE Independent Skills: If you only need to certify one or two specific areas, you can select the tests that suit you best. For example, you can take just the spoken expression section or combine it with the written one, without needing to do the entire exam.

How does the SIELE Independent Skills modality work?

This modality allows you to combine the tests flexibly, depending on what you need to certify. There are five pre-established options:

S1: Reading Comprehension + Listening Comprehension. (Ideal if you need to prove your comprehension level in texts and audios).
S2: Reading Comprehension + Written Expression and Interaction. (Perfect if you are asked to evaluate your reading and writing skills).
S3: Listening Comprehension + Spoken Expression and Interaction. (Very useful for proving that you understand what you hear and can communicate fluently).
S4: Spoken Expression and Interaction + Written Expression and Interaction. (Ideal for those who need to certify their productive skills—that is, what they can write and speak).
S5: Spoken Expression and Interaction. (If you are only interested in certifying your ability to speak, this is your option).
